The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has become a strategic partner of Rework the World.
In this capacity, the ILO will bring its experience and networks on employment policy in 183 countries, and specifically leverage its work on ILO's:
- The Youth Employment Programme and experience with the youth entrepreneurship agenda;
- The Green Jobs Initiative and networks focused on greening the economy;
- The Sustainable Enterprise Programme and technical cooperation resources with large scale outreach.
It is very nice and interesting to hear that ILO joined our efforts to make a difference in the world through the Rework The World Initiative. Though, We still need involvement of other UN agencies and European Union ones and other international and bilateral cooperation agencies to support us. The Initiative already exists locally in each country where YES has presence. It is the case of DRC.
ReplyDeleteA part of the Rework The World Initiative, YES DRC organized a participatory planning meeting in the town of Bukavu on May 11 - 12, 2009. The meeting brought together 37 enterpreneurs, youth leaders, investors, scientists, business leaders, political decisionmakers and others who are committed to find new solutions and partnerships to tackle the interrelated financial and economic crisis, unemployment, development and environment.
The Reworking DRC meeting's purpose was to meet with YES DRC enterpreneurs and an engaged group of stakeholders to identify and select concrete ideas and existing projects to replicate and scale up among the three solutions below selected during the YES DRC Core planning meeting held in March 2009:
1. Renewable Energy,
2. Agriculture and Forestry, and
3. Green Youth Enterprises.
Five successful pilot initiatives including new project ideas were selected to be replicated and scaled up in both urban and rural areas in order to provide more opportunities of generating youth employment.
